July 2, 2012 — The City of New Buffalo is pleased to introduce Robin Abshire, our new Recreational Facilities Superintendent.
Ms. Abshire has been with the City of South Haven for the past fifteen years, including serving as the Marina Manager, Harbormaster and Leisure Services Director. For eleven years she was responsible for four municipal marinas, ten parks, seven beaches, the cemetery, and the riverfront concert series, including managing seasonal employees, budgeting, grant writing, being responsible for capital improvements, and assisting in hands-on operation of park facilities.
Ms. Abshire has been awarded the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Water Safety Award in 2008, and the Award of Merit from the National Water Safety Congress in 1996 and 2009. Ms. Abshire has also served as the Chair of the Michigan Harbormasters Association from 2004 to 2006.
Ms. Abshire earned her Masters of the Arts degree in Outdoor Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and her Bachelors of Science degree in Parks and Recreation from Central Michigan University. Prior to serving in South Haven, she served fourteen years as Park Ranger/ Assistant Resource Manager for the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
